Discussion:
"Chuck" shooting location?
(too old to reply)

In the recent episode of Chuck, the episode opened with the NSA guy
with his lover in eastern Europe. Presumably that was a set
somewhere.

Would anyone know where that location was?

The reason I ask was because there was an old 1950s transit bus in the
background, freshly painted in the green, orange stripe, and white
colors of the Philadelphia Transportation Company. I'm curious who
has the bus now.

Thanks! [public replies, please]

Props departments often buy old city buses for use in tv/film. I'm
probably wrong, but I'm going to say that location was supposed to be
Chechnya but was filmed here in the USA.

Thanks for the info.

I was wondering where it was actually filmed, not where the story took
place.

But you're saying everything in the scene were studio props, not
random stuff of a street scene someplace?

What episode was this? I've only seen the pilot and the last two
episodes, but I've taken the Warner studio tour twice.

But in general, it's likely that large props such as vehicles are
props -- probably rented from a prop warehouse that specializes in
cars, but IIRC, at least a couple of studios own large prop warehouses
east-ish of Hollywood (Ontario-ish) that include vehicles.

It was the first episode of the double-header night recently
broadcast. The opening scene took place in a foreign country where
the NSA guy was with his lover. I'm wondering where the street scene
was actually filmed (presumably not in some foreign country!)

The one where you think Baldwin failed to make Casey human ;)

AH, ok. IIRC, that was shot somewhere on the Warner lot.

The Buy More store at least *looks* like it is filmed off-lot at a
converted storefront, but most of the other sets are definitely on the
Warner lot, *especially* Chuck's sister's apartment, whose exteriors I
think incorporate and repaint some Yale-ish Gilmore setpieces -- and
FTR both the Yale exteriors on Gg and the exterior of Chuck's sister's
apartment were/are on soundstages. Probably the same one, but then
again, Yale was always going to go away after season 7 whether Gg was
renewed or not, so seeing Yale stuff in other Warner shows isn't,
like, dismaying.

But Alias has certainly made action shows more ambitious about going
out on location around L.A. to find places that could pass for other
countries.

I think there's at least two sets there, possibly three -- the store
proper, the home theatre room, and the back area with the cage.
