On my way back from NY Monday night I took the last through RiverLINE
train from Trenton to Camden. They call this "Southbound Express"
since it skips 5 stops. However, beyond that, the train went quite
fast, making the trip in 45 rather than 58 minutes, and arriving in
Camden 7 minutes ahead of schedule.

It would be nice if they could do service this fast on more of the
runs.

I suggest that when several runs are occurring on the RiverLine, that the
single tracking sections force delays as operators wait for segments to
clear. IOW, it would be nice but offering two way service on a schedule
likely makes it impossible.

Has there ever been talk of making most of the route double track?

The trackage that the Riverline runs on is shared with what used to be
Conrail. Theoretically from about 2200 to 0600 every day, it's regular
railroad trackage too. Because the Riverline is designated "Light Rail",
it can't share trackage with other forms of rail like freight.

There also are segments where only single trackage is practical
presently, I doubt folks really want to move or have their businesses
impacted to allow getting rid of single tracking.
