Hi
I am not really familiar with Philly septa and bus service.
Could someone tell me how I can get to 21 S 5th St
Philadelphia, (which is the Mexican consulate ) from the Greyhound
station. Also can someone recommend some names of cheap B&B places
close to this area also?
Thanks very much

Walk. It's only a half mile or so.

If you aren't carrying a lot of luggage, the easiest way is to walk. The
Bus Station is at approximately 10th Street and Filbert. If you walk North
on 10th Street towards the lower numbers, you'll hit Market Street, and
then East on Market (lower numbers again until you get to 5th Street). If
I remember correctly, when you get to 5th street, cross Market Street and
proceed south a few buildings, you should see the address you're looking
for.

The other choice is walk to Market Street and either take a bus on Market
Street to 5th Street, or walk to 11th Street and Market, go down the stairs
to the Market Frankford line and ride east to 5th Street, go up the stairs
at 5th Street. Ask the Cashier in the booth if you're going in the proper
direction, despite their reputation, they do actually try to help riders.

I'm not familiar with Bread and Breakfasts in Philadelphia, it's an
interesting question you pose for someone who lives in the region. The
ones listed near where you're going run around $80.00 to $160 per night but
not all of them are listed.

I can see that, considering that the term is "Bed and Breakfast."

I can see I need to begin proofreading again. At least the links I sent
actually were for Bed & Breakfasts!

Come on. It was an honest mistake. Oh, wait... you never make any.

Come on yourself. It was meant humorously.

You mean *South* toward Market.

Or rather since this person is not going
to know what direction north or south is
to walk left once he/she leaves the bus station to 10th St. then walk right
on 10th toward Market, then left on Market to 5th St.

There's one on Walnut St at about 12th St but I can't recall its exact name
right now. There's also the Thomas Bond House on 2nd St between Chestnut
and Walnut next to that little W. Penn "Welcome" plaza across from
City Tavern. I recommend City Tavern for lunch or dinner, btw.
Both of these are close to his/her final destination.

Bank Street Hostel, part of Hostelling International.

The link provides walking directions from the bus station and a map.
Bank Street is one of Philadelphia's many small streets which we
locals don't even know is there - so don't count on anyone on the street
being able to direct you.

Good luck.

Cheryl, are you sure it's still there/intact? There was that
bad fire which destroyed the Five Spot, in that block, a few
months ago.
